Roller Coaster Weather

All my guys and the dogs headed out yesterday afternoon to sled . The temps were great right around 30. The new Christmas sleds worked really well on the tower road. They all had a blast.

Late that evening when it was time for the new season of Downton Abbey the temps had gone up to 37 and the rain and fog set in.

This morning at 6:00 the temps were at 48. the rain continued all night and now the driveway is a sheet of ice. as it gets mushy we will have to drive up and down it a lot and break up the ice. by noon we should be headed  back down in temps with snow flurries arriving . Back to the arctic cold in the single and negative digits.

Today is back to school and this is the one morning Caleb sleeps til almost 9 !!!

It is 11:30 and I am patiently trying to get the boys to stop talking to each other and work on their own stuff!! . The temp has dropped to 33 and  in 15 minutes we have gotten a coating of snow . so much for the down pour of rain we had this morning which floaded the mud/screen room!

Bachelor is over and Bill has gone to get Zach from Ethan’s house. The temp is now 14 degrees and there are still snow flurries in the air. I guess it will be even colder by morning but for today I think the rollercoaster has dipped to its lowest.

A New Year!

Well last year at this time I was excited to have gotten a hotspot so we could have high-speed internet at home! Yikes that was the most aggravating thing. You just could never keep ahead of its demands.

So much has happened in our lives since last March.Zach got back into swimming and finished up in June . He was excited to go to camp but the excitement left as he came down with a virus that plagued him all summer. He tested positive for Lymes disease and was treated for that, but as the summer went into October he was still not feeling his best. After seeing the infectious disease specialist she said his antibodies to Lyme were old, and that it was probably something more along the lines of coxsakies virus ( I am sure I did not spell that right)  Zach finally started to feel better and is back swimming again. His coach is getting him ready to take the life  guard training course next fall. He told him the day he turns 16 he will hire him! He is also working out with his coach as he trains for a triathlon.

Caleb finished his dance year in June with a recital which the 6 of us were able to attend together. He did a tap and Jazz number. In September he has continued with his class readying a tap and Jazz number for recital time as well as taking a solo class in Tap. This is part of the comp team.If all goes well and he seems to be on target now he will have four competitions. 2 in Albany,1 in Utica and 1 in Sparta NJ then Nationals will be in Wildwood Nj. His solo is to super Mario brothers routine and I think he is doing an awesome job!

Summer saw us busy with Camp. we plowed right through the spring and into summer. We stay very busy from Fathers day to Labor day. Though this past year August was quieter than usual. The fall was very busy . Our Ladies retreat was earlier then usual and that went very well then we just kept going right up to Thanksgiving.

We headed to Cape Cod in early Sept. This is our time to de-stress and regroup from the summer and then jump right into fall. It was a more laid back vacation as Zach was just not feeling up to doing a lot. With that said we did get out to the Highland light. and enjoyed a picnic near by. Sunsets were spent at Sesuit beach. we watched Caleb play in the cool waves!

I am rambling in this catch up entry. In July Gramma and Grampa arrived and surprised Caleb on his birthday. We met at Kyle’s resteraunt. We had dinner and cake and ice cream before heading back up the Mountain. Gramma and Grampa stayed for a week! One day while they were here we took a trip into Vermont. we went to Weston Vt. to the Vermont Country store and then over to Cavendish Vt. to see where Mom was born. We could just see the house over the bank. Then we headed off on a very back road to see where her great Grandfather had lived in Vermont. We took a picture of a stone wall winding along the road and decided his farm was there in those woods on Popple Dungeon .Thankfully Mom is writing this all down because she will have all the correct names and spellings!

The last night they were here Kyle and Shannon came for dinner to celebrate Moms birthday. We had our own private fireworks show after cake and ice cream!

In August we quietly celebrated my birthday. It is so busy in August that there is not much time. We did go to lunch at Red Robin and came home for ice cream and cookies.

Sept is Bills birthday and we were at Cape Cod his favorite place to be. Bill and Caleb put in a lot of hours on the cape cod rail trail. this was Caleb’s first time riding solo. he put in between 17 and 22 miles everyday for four days. the last day they were stranded in Orleans when the van broke down. The tow truck was going to be hours so the road side service picked them up and took them to the bike trail and told them to ride home! the trail it self was fine but the last 5 miles were pretty hairy!

Late Sept/Oct. saw us back into our routines. and busy   camp schedules as well. Oct. brought Kyle’s 23 rd birthday. We carved pumpkins and had peach pie for his cake. Hard to believe he is a head chef at his age. But he is doing awesome!

At the end of the month we celebrated Zach’s birthday. Gramma was to arrive the day before but Grampa got sick so she came later in Nov.  Kyle brought “City” pizza and we had cake and ice cream. The cake had pop rocks on it! The guys played video games. Zach would like to be a DJ some day and he received a controller so he can create his own music. He was very excited about that.

Mom did comme for a week in November. We just hung out, went bowling and then out for pizza. Kyle and Shannon came for dinner .We sure do miss her when she is not here with us. Grampa too!

This Thanksgiving for the first time in a long time we went out to the fingerlakes and had a wonderful family Thanksgiving with everyone one on Bills side. The boys got to see both their grandparents and all their Aunts and Uncles.

December found us getting ready for the Christmas Gathering at Camp. It was a wonderful evening. Dinner desserts crafts and stories for the children and finished with a live Nativity.I was responsible to organize the evening. All the staff were wonderful in getting there rolls taken care of. The evening went well. pastor Chris has a live Nativity program all mapped out. I set up the cast and costumes. 19 costumes were made by Janet and my self! The kids and adults did an Awesome job! It was very special way to focus on the birth of Christ.

Here is wishing to all who read this a wonderful New Year. We know not what it will bring. We pray for Bills Mom as she is not doing well. She does not know us anymore and has faded away. Prayers go out to Andy and Sue who do a wonderful job taking care of her, with help from Meg Wil and Anne as well as the home health workers that come in.

Prayers to my Parents as well as they enjoy the sunshine state!

Looking forward to all the boys will accomplish. Kyle and Shannon’s fourth Anniversary! . Enough of my ramblings I know I have forgotten or not included a lot but this year I hope to be better at getting something written every month. Maybe I will make that my one new years resolution!

Daylight Savings!

This morning we sprang ahead in time and were blessed with a warm sunny day . So off to the shale pit to play and run and soak up the rays of glorious sun. It was so bright I needed my sun glasses but of course was not wearing them!  We all had a blast!

First Day of Spring!??!

I stepped out side this morning in hopes of seeing the first signs of Spring. Today the calendar says is the first day of Spring. So I headed out to the garden to prepare the spot where next Friday Good Friday I should be planting my peas. Well Rude awakening for this Spring day! Yesterday we received one foot of glorious fluffy white stuff! Great for the water table not for the moral.

The boys were excited to get spring baskets. Zach was up at 7:00(as rare as this spring day!) He said there was a beautiful sunrise and he just wanted to get up and enjoy it. He also got into his spring basket and ate candy before breakfast! Caleb slept til 7 also .He was up frequently during the night. He has a cold sore throat fever and has been content to get his brother with his nerf gun every time he walks thru the room . He also watched Sesame street and Daniel tiger and those shows are for “babies” I also got a beautiful Spring basket complete with lindt chocolate eggs and a bunny in a wonderful selfwatering planter for out side. Also some fresh spring daffodils and tulips not yet blossomed.

Well I am sure when the spring thaw gets around to visiting maybe in April we will get out and plant those peas but for now we will work on fixing the snow blower and wiping up puddles of snow!

Snow

Snow by Caleb

Snow  snow.Caleb today went out in the snow.I am going to have a snow ball fight.Woof woof said Jenny. She whimpered as she fetched a snow ball.I am having a magic snow ball dog fight.I turned into a German shepherd dog . Together we had a silly snow ball fight.

Snow by Zach

Drake sat on his sled. He was getting ready to take on the ultimate hill. The hill was thirty feet l0ng and extremely steep. His best friend Steve was with him. Steve dropped the sled on the ground. The sled was brand new. It was red with yellow flames on it. Steve sat on his sled then looked at Drake.

“You ready?” Steve asked.

Drake nodded”Lets go!”

They both pushed off. They flew down the hill. Drake’s hair blew in the wind. The cold snow stung his face. The cold air was rushing inside his lungs. It was getting harder to breath, but Drake didn’t care. Drake looked and saw Steve sleding toward him. They crashed and rolled down the hill. Drake was rolling so much all he saw was white. Then when he stopped his sled flew toward him. Drake watched as it came closer. Tehn it hit him in the face and he blacked out.

Shaving

This Christmas Caleb rec’d his first shaving kit for christmas. They have pretend razors, shaving cream and shampoo. When things calmed down after Christmas, Caleb went with Dad to have his first shaving lesson!

I found this picture of Zach when he was 7 or 8 getting his first lesson too! By next year I think Zach will be using a real razor! yikes!! they grow up to quickly.

A New Year!

IMG8369A good friend recently pointed out that I have not posted in a long time. Living in the “forest” does not bring me some up to date necessities like high-speed internet! I live in the era of dial-up. I hope most of you who read this do not remember dial-up. but… it is not fun. I can not add photos to this page with out first sending them to my husband at work. Then I go to work and upload them to the page. I write at home because he has a lap top and that self mouse is always in the way. ( I am now beginning to whine like another blog I know so….)

We ushered in the New Year last night by letting Caleb think he was staying up til Midnight. We set the clock ahead so at 10:30 it became 12:00! This was Zach’s idea. We ate pizza and wings then got out the games the boys rec’d for Christmas. Tom and Jerry Trouble and Nab-it a scrabble like game. it was almost 9 when we finished playing. Then we moved to the living room to watch” Return to the Secret Garden” We watched Old guys from our day on Great Performances on PBS and a little of Dick Clarks New Year it was festive and Caleb thought it was midnight so  off to bed he went!! Then we finished watching the new Hawaii 5-o with Zach. I would like to say Bill and I stayed up with Zach til midnight but we were snug in our bed and fast asleep by 11:30!

As the new year starts we are planning for the future. Looking ahead to our garden thinking of plants while watching snow fall. We have been blessed by almost 2 feet of snow. This snow is so necessary for our water table. So let it snow! We also spent two hours getting a Nyla bone unstuck from the snow blower! Just love those dogs!

I should back post but.. I missed writing about Caleb’s dance . We went to Nationals in Virginia Beach in July(Thank You Aunt Maria for Driving what a blessing to my nerves !) It was very hot 105 degrees Thank you Lord for air conditioning. We spent most of our time in the pool at the hotel! His group did very well! He loved the experience ! This year we did decide however to drop the team and just do the regular classes. That means no more ballet! Caleb who turned 7 in July is fine with that. He tried about 15 mins of Hip Hop.. It was hysterical. He does not have a hip hop frame of mind. But tap and Jazz He loves! I was glad to see the smiles and him just having fun again. Caleb also started the long awaited gymnastics. Unfortunately they are very crowded now and the lack of male coaches made it a less than fun experience and he opted out of it quicker then I would have thought.

IMG_8444

Zach turned 14 in the fall . He had a good summer at camp. Broke some of that shell! He met new kids and started Paintball this year. Aside from getting a good whack in the back of the head from friendly fire he really enjoyed it. I am sure next summer he will be down there as much as possible. Zach continues to like his oil painting classes. He and Gramma took a class at Christmas time. They enjoyed being together but the  subject left a lot to be desired for both of them. Zach will not be painting flowers! Zach (and all of us ) have had two meetings with his birthmom and the whole family this fall. We had a great time at  a Park in the fingerlakes!

IMG_8490

AWANA started late this fall as  the club we were involved with decided at the last-minute to not do AWANA this year. That meant starting fresh with new people and commanders. So far so good! Both Bill and I are leaders this year. Caleb is in his last year of Spark’s. Zach aged out  but we are hoping this new club will eventually as they get their feet under them get the older groups back in.

Kyle and Shannon are doing very well. Kyle is Head Chef at the restaurant where he works. He loves this role . He is amazed that someone his age has such responsibility. They bought their first car in the big world  this summer. That was a new experience but we knew they would do a great job with that as they had been so responsible with buying a car from us. They are looking forward to moving into a new Apartment this New Year.

IMG_8669IMG_8657

We have enjoyed a couple of trips out to the Fingerlakes. Not as many as we would like, with gas it has become so costly. Bills Mom is living with his brother Andrew and sister  in law Sue. her dementia/Alzheimer’s does not allow her to always remember who we are. We also get to see his Dad and Karey while we are there for the day.

We were able to take our destress trip to Cape Cod at he end of the summer as well. The boys and Ethan, Zach’s friend had a good time in the ocean and we had a  peaceful time as well. Camp is fun and we do so enjoy  working for the Lord here but summer is long and demanding! Bill enjoyed his new Birthday bike from Mom and Roger . We rode a lot near the cottage. we found a little gift shop near the hotels. There were also several little trails down to the beach.

IMG_0102

Bill and I of course are older but we wont talk about that too much.My parents did come to help me celebrate my big fabulous fifty birthday! That was fun to have them for several days. I got a new camera and even though I am still learning to use the manual side of it I hope you will see a change in my photos!

IMG_8565IMG_8499

Enough of an update …this will take for ever to check all my typos!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Bear

Monday morning Bill found that the dumpster at camp had been pried open by bear! There were paw prints up the side of the garbage dumpster. The bear grabbed the sliding door and tried to open it in the opposite direction. I did not get a picture of that because it was fixed before I got there but!! The paw prints were very clear in the pile of sand behind the kitchen.  The bear pictured is not a camp bear. I would love to get a photo of him -maybe some other time!

Random Events

Zach with Muffin. We had the fun of dog sitting. Muffin is Zach’s responsibility. She belongs to Mike who is on staff here at camp. We all have a good time with her She has a personality unlike these big labs! She sits up on the couch or sleeps in your lap. but fun of all she climbs under the covers with Zach and goes to sleep! She also prefers people food!

The geese and their young are in a field we travel by frequently. They have grown so much all ready . There are several families . It is wonderful to see the little puffballs grow so quickly.
